With the State of Michigan not fully staffing departments we find that many workers make mistakes due to overwork or inadequate training. Michigan Medicaid Estate Recovery July 1, 2011
The Snyder Administration has started enforcing Medicaid estate recovery (government takes homes) July 1, 2011. The administration is sending out notices to recipients who received benefits after July 1, 2010. The state's claim is enforced through probate. See my Blog for more info. There is even worse news. State Senator Kahn, R Saginaw, has presented a bill that is even more aggressive. The Kahn bill would put liens on the homes of residents and spouses even while they are alive. That would make it very difficult for a spouse to sell to move to assisted living or to get a reverse mortgage. In addition it would pursue all transfers of money and property after death.
