Prior to attending law school Jim Schuster was a social worker for the Department of Social Services (now the Department of Human Services). After he passed the bar he worked as a law clerk for United States District Judge Noel P. Fox and as a Judge for the Chippewa Ottawa Conservation Court. He served on the Council of the General Practice Section of the State Bar of Michigan from 1985 to 1997 in all capacities including as Chair of the Section in 1991.
Jim has had articles on Elder Law published in the Michigan Bar Journal, including the article titled “Medicaid and the Practice of Law,” Michigan Lawyers Weekly, the Detroit Legal News and Laches, the publication of the Oakland County Bar Association. He has also presented course material for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Jim’s involvement in the aging community has been extensive. He has been a member of the professional speakers bureau of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Michigan Chapter. He works in association with the Geriatric Social Workers, Wayne State University’s Institute on Gerontology, and the Area Agency on Aging being a return featured speaker at the AAA 1B Caregiver Expo. He has partnered with the Wayne State’ University Institute of Gerontology to present the annual Elder Advocate Conference. He is available to speak to public and professional groups, including family councils and in services on the many issues facing our elders. Meet the staffDawn Roffey Dawn Roffey is a paralegal in the office, handling client interviews, drafting estate documents, Medicaid applications, marketing, and developing the www.jimschuster.comwebsite. She attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn and received her Legal Assistant associate’s degree from Macomb Community College. Getting people the help they need is a passion for Kathy and she works hard to achieve her goals! Kathy is also a founding board member of Faith in Action, Oakland County, a partnership of faith groups, service agencies, businesses and volunteers dedicated to helping seniors stay in their homes. Kayaking, golf, bowling, reading, and traveling are a few of the hobbies you might find Kathy enjoying, but her delight is in being the mother of three and the grandmother of one.
